In a chilling incident, two individuals, Noah Tovohome and Rajay Zannu, have been remanded in a correctional center by a Magistrate’s Court in Yaba, Lagos, for allegedly conspiring to murder their friend, Segun Zusu, over 36 bags of rice.
The court heard that the accused, along with a boat driver, intercepted Zusu’s goods, beat him with a plank, and threw him into the Novo River in Seme. They subsequently sold the stolen bags of rice for approximately N1.4m. The police prosecutor, Chekwube Okeh, stated that the crime occurred on November 12, 2023, and the defendants face charges under Section 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
During the court proceedings, the defendants did not enter pleas, and Okeh requested their remand in a correctional center pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. Magistrate Linda Balogun granted the request, ordering the defendants’ remand at Kirikiri Correctional Centre until January 22, 2024, when the case will resume for the DPP’s advice.
This harrowing tale underscores the grave consequences of criminal actions and the need for justice in such distressing circumstances. The legal process will unfold, seeking accountability for the alleged heinous crime.
