From Neglect to Renewal: Benin Residents Celebrate Road Transformation

BENIN CITY — Residents of Charismatic Church Road, off Ekenhuan Road in Benin City, expressed excitement as Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, inspected the ongoing reconstruction of the road.

The 1.4-kilometre project, being handled by Place of Peace Investment Limited, is expected to ease movement and improve economic activities in the area, which residents say had suffered years of neglect.

During the inspection visit, residents and business owners trooped out in large numbers, cheering the governor and commending the intervention.

One of the residents, Blessing Patrick, described the road as previously impassable, noting that the situation had caused significant hardship over the years.

“For many years, we could not use this road. We are grateful to the governor for this project,” she said.

Another resident, Osarunwense Igbinovia, a trader in the area, recalled that the road’s poor condition had contributed to erosion and insecurity.

She said the reconstruction would bring relief to residents and reduce criminal activities previously associated with the area.

The project is expected to significantly improve accessibility, boost local commerce, and enhance safety in the community.

Residents expressed optimism that the ongoing work would bring lasting development and transform the area.
