which revealed that many road users are shunning the pedestrian bridges located at the Mowe and Ibafo ends of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.

that many pedestrians on the busy expressway who are always in a hurry to get to the other side of the road prefer to dash across instead of using the pedestrian bridges.

The situation, it was further learnt, had led to avoidable accidents on the highway.

A pedestrian who spoke on condition of anonymity attributed the shunning of pedestrian bridges to impatience on the part of road users.

“People are always in a hurry. This highway is meant for speeding vehicles, but because of impatience, you will see people crossing the road. Many of them are impatient to make use of the bridge which is safer and better than risking one’s life,” he said.

A trader at Ibafo who simply identified herself as Rashida, said, “It is risky to cross to the other side of the road without the use of the bridge. At times, accidents occur when drivers are trying to avoid hitting people. If they’re using the bridge, no matter the rush, they will cross safely to the other side.”

A student, Olamilekan Adeoye, said, “It is not safe crossing the road, my parents had warned me not to try it, so I don’t do it.FRSC cautions street clients against disregarding common extensions

When contacted, the FRSC spokesperson said, “It’s part of our advocacy visit to motor parks, telling people how to use the roads and pedestrian bridges among others.

“We are trying to tell them the dangers involved in crossing such an expressway. So we are working on it.”
