“Gas Tanker Fire Contained in Lagos as Emergency Responders Avert Potential Disaster”
A gas tanker incident in Lagos State was swiftly brought under control by emergency responders, preventing a potentially more serious fire or explosion and leaving no casualties reported.
According to reports, the incident occurred along the Owode-Elede corridor inward Onirin on Ikorodu Road, rather than Ikotun as initially stated in the brief. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded after an LPG tanker carrying approximately five tonnes of gas developed a leak while in transit.
Preliminary findings indicated that the leakage originated from the underside of the moving tanker. The driver reportedly brought the vehicle to a safe stop, helping to prevent the situation from escalating into a major fire or explosion.
Emergency response agencies, including LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and traffic management officials, moved to secure the area, contain the danger and manage traffic around the affected corridor. No deaths or injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
The development once again highlights the safety risks associated with the transportation of liquefied petroleum gas and other hazardous materials on densely populated urban roads. Authorities have repeatedly urged tanker operators to maintain vehicles properly and comply with established safety regulations to reduce the risk of leaks, fires and explosions.
