Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has substantially revived Nigeria’s economy, which he said was in ruins when the President took over from previous administrations.
Speaking in Esan Central Local Government Area during the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally for the August 16 Edo Central Senatorial By-election, Governor Okpebholo praised President Tinubu for implementing policies that have stabilised the economy despite the daunting challenges he met on assumption of office 26 months ago.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited a failed economy from previous administrations. He met a very bad situation. He has really worked hard to address the issues and to fix the mess he inherited from his predecessors,” Okpebholo said.
The Governor, who led APC stakeholders to several wards in Uwessan and Ewu, said the President’s backing had been pivotal to his own achievements both in the Senate and now as Governor. He urged Edo people to reward the President with overwhelming support in his re-election bid in 2027.
Okpebholo recalled that during his brief time in the Senate, he secured a presidential approval of ₦130 billion for the construction of the Ekpoma–Auchi–Okpella Road a feat, he noted, the PDP senator representing the district for eight years failed to achieve. “What we achieved in nine months in the Senate, with President Tinubu’s support, the PDP could not do in eight years,” he stated.
He explained that he had fully aligned with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda because of Tinubu’s demonstrated commitment to Edo State. “President Tinubu told me to fix roads in Edo State with the assurance of reimbursement. So, we are working. Immediately after the rains, there will be massive road construction across the State,” Okpebholo assured.
The rally drew key APC figures, including Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor Esq; Edo Central Senatorial Leader, Gen. Cecil Isekhaigbe (rtd); APC State Deputy Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh; commissioners; special advisers; and other party stalwarts
