The Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who reportedly died in a private hospital in London, England.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo described the late President as a disciplined leader, patriot, and man of unshakable integrity who devoted his life to the service of Nigeria.
“It is with a heavy heart that we received the news of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari,” the Governor stated.
He paid glowing tribute to the late Nigerian leader’s commitment to fighting corruption, strengthening national security, and his determined effort to position Nigeria on the path of growth and stability.
“His Excellency was a man of immense character, whose zeal for combating corruption and securing Nigeria’s unity left an indelible mark in our national history. He served this country with uncommon selflessness, and his legacy of patriotism and discipline will forever endure,” Governor Okpebholo noted.
The Governor further highlighted Buhari’s significant contributions in critical sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, and the fight against insurgency, adding that even in retirement, the late former President continued to offer invaluable counsel and remained a revered elder statesman.
“His love for Nigeria was evident in every decision he made and every step he took. He remained a strong voice for national cohesion and good governance,” the statement added.
Governor Okpebholo extended his heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, the government and people of Katsina State, and indeed all Nigerians during this period of profound loss.
