Hilda Baci Begins Guinness World Record Attempt for Largest Pot of Jollof Rice

‎Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Baci, has embarked on another audacious Guinness World Record bid this time to prepare the world’s largest pot of jollof rice using 250 bags of rice.

‎The cookathon queen, who won global acclaim in 2023 after her record-breaking longest cooking marathon, launched the attempt before a cheering crowd in Lagos on Wednesday.

‎Initially slated for Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, the event was relocated to the Eko Hotel Car Park B to accommodate the surge in public interest. According to organisers, over 20,000 fans and food lovers have already registered to witness the feat.

‎The custom-built pot, which is six metres wide, 1.1 metres high, and 1.3 metres deep, has a capacity of 22,619 litres and will be filled to about 80 per cent.

‎More than a record attempt, the gathering doubles as the World Jollof Festival, featuring music, cultural showcases, and food exhibitions.

‎Baci said she was overwhelmed by the massive support from Nigerians and the African diaspora:

‎ “This isn’t just about me it’s about celebrating our food culture, uniting people, and putting Nigerian jollof on the world stage.”
