How the Mighty Have Fallen: A Lamentation for Our Beloved Motherland By Favour Osaigbovo

We’ve lost our way, and our motherland has become a shadow of its former self. We’ve become strangers in the land of our fathers, with no desire to promote the interests of our birthplace. How did we get here?

I recall the story of Esther, a young girl growing up in the heart of our great nation. Everything seemed possible back then. People were happy, respectful of culture and tradition, and passionate about building a better future. The idea of “Japa” (migrating from Nigeria) was unheard of.

Fast-forward to the present, and the narrative has changed. Hope for our motherland has been buried, and our youths no longer take pride in their country. Instead, they’re embracing the “Japa syndrome,” abandoning our shores in search of greener pastures. Our economy is dying, and the value of our currency is plummeting.

How did we get here? It’s time for us to take action, revive our hope, and reclaim our identity. We’ve lost sight of who we are, but we can’t continue down this path. It’s time to arise from our slumber and rekindle our passion, interest, and awareness for our communities and nation.

Together, we can restore our motherland to its former glory. Let’s join forces to revive our economy, promote cultural pride, and create opportunities for our youths. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and the future of our great nation.

Arise, Nigeria! Let’s bring back the glory of our motherland!
