Prolific Nollywood actress Linda Osifo, has given Nigerians a detailed meaning of beauty. The actress during an interview on Friday October 8, with Aura Magazine, stated that beauty depends on who is defining it.
The actress stated that there is nothing like white beauty, or caramel beauty. She recounted her experience growing up in Benin city, Edo State. She stated that at the time she grew up in a society that was not concerned about colors.
“I grew up in a society that was not concerned about colors until I traveled out.” She stated.
Linda said that she faced a lot of discrimination and racism in her primary and also within the black community. According to her she was born and grew up in Edo State. But when she relocated to Canada at the age of 8 and she faced a lot of discrimination even from blacks.
She stated that she used to battle self esteem because most people told her she was ugly because she has scars and tribal marks.
She also said that being a dark skinned person affected her acting career. According to her most auditions were for fair complexion ladies.
“When I started there were auditions and descriptions that you will see. And most if not 80% of the description was for fair complexion. When you see these descriptions you will feel low self esteem. I didn’t take these things into consideration because I came for my passion.”
She stated that the definition of beauty is defined by the standards of beauty accepted in any socety. She also said that Nigerians are not defining it within their lens.
