Oredo Chairman Intervenes in Ibiwe Street Fire Incident in Benin
The Executive Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council, Hon. Engr. Gabriel Iduseri, on Sunday swiftly intervened in a fire outbreak at the popular Ibiwe Street in Benin City.
The incident, which occurred on March 8, 2026, prompted the chairman to immediately mobilize relevant authorities while personally monitoring efforts to contain the situation and prevent the fire from escalating.
During his visit to the scene, Iduseri assessed the level of damage caused by the inferno and interacted with affected traders and residents. He assured them that the council would work with relevant stakeholders to provide support to those who suffered losses.
The council boss commended firefighters and security personnel for their prompt response, noting that their quick intervention prevented the fire from spreading to nearby shops.
He also stressed the need for increased safety consciousness in markets and other commercial areas across the local government area.
Iduseri urged traders to strictly adhere to safety guidelines, particularly regarding electrical installations and the handling of combustible materials, warning that negligence often leads to avoidable fire outbreaks.
The chairman further assured that the council would strengthen monitoring and preventive measures in markets and commercial centres across Oredo to safeguard lives and property.
He added that the council would continue to collaborate with emergency agencies, market leaders, and community
stakeholders to prevent future incidents and ensure that trading activities on Ibiwe Street return to normal as soon as possible.
