IG Orders Nationwide Security Deployment Ahead of Eid-el-Kabir Celebrations”

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed a massive nationwide security deployment ahead of the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, as authorities intensify efforts to ensure a peaceful and secure festive period across Nigeria.

According to police authorities, the enhanced security operation will involve the strategic deployment of officers, tactical units, intelligence teams, and other security assets to major prayer grounds, recreational centers, highways, markets, motor parks, and other public spaces expected to witness increased human and vehicular movement during the Sallah celebrations.

The police leadership said the operation is designed to strengthen public safety, prevent criminal activities, and improve rapid response capabilities nationwide. Citizens were also urged to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly report suspicious movements or security threats to the nearest authorities.

The nationwide directive comes amid ongoing concerns over insecurity in parts of Nigeria, including banditry, kidnappings, communal violence, and other criminal activities that often heighten during major festive gatherings. Security analysts say the deployment reflects growing efforts by Nigerian authorities to reassure citizens and maintain public order during one of the country’s most significant religious celebrations.

The Nigeria Police Force emphasized that officers deployed for the Eid-el-Kabir operation have been instructed to act professionally, respect human rights, and maintain a visible presence to deter criminal elements. The force also advised motorists to obey traffic regulations and avoid reckless driving during the holiday period.

Eid-el-Kabir, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is celebrated by millions of Muslims across Nigeria and around the world. The celebration typically attracts large crowds for prayers, family gatherings, and interstate travel, making security coordination a critical national priority.

Several major Nigerian and international media outlets have also reported on the nationwide security preparations ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir festivities, highlighting government efforts to maintain stability during the celebrations.
