Aisha Achimugu, founder of Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd, has denied allegations that her wealth is linked to her association with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. In an interview, Achimugu insisted she has been an entrepreneur since 2001, long before her connection with Sanwo-Olu.
Achimugu’s wealth and business dealings have been under scrutiny, particularly after her lavish 50th birthday celebration in Grenada, which was attended by prominent figures, including Sanwo-Olu. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has also accused her of money laundering, and a federal high court has ordered the forfeiture of $13 million allegedly linked to her firm.
Achimugu maintains that the money was not found in her possession and is contesting the forfeiture order. She attributes her success to her business acumen and connections, saying, “I have always had access to power and governance. I’m a known Nigerian. I have friends, and I have done well
Regarding her relationship with Sanwo-Olu, Achimugu said, “Having to know those who will increase my portfolio is very important to me. It is not about Governor Sanwo-Olu at all.” She described the oil block held by her company as being awarded through a “competitive and transparent” bid process
