The Nigeria Customs Administration, on Thursday, annihilated 96 holders of different illegal and lapsed drugs worth N12.8bn in LagosLagos State.
Adonye Dappa-Williams, Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, addressed journalists in the Epe region of the state during the destruction of the contrabands. He stated that the goods were brought to be destroyed after being condemned by a court.
According to Dappa-Williams, the destruction of illegal goods would deter their import and consumption, and the importers of these goods would soon face the full wrath of the law.
He explained that “it has to do with the guideline that the importation of pharmaceutical products is restricted to very few ports” as the reason for the large volume. As a result, the pharmaceuticals arriving here are of high strength; It is strictly restricted, and no other port can accept it. Because of this, all of our devastation has occurred here.
Tramadol tablets, codeine cough syrup, diclofenac tablets and injections, pramo sex tablets, yagra tablets, black cobra tablets, sildenafil citrate tablets and chaka pain extra tablets, mebendazole tablets, royal chest lung tablets, Dr. ibramol tablets, omeprazole capsules, and cotrimoxazole tablets, diavita loperamide capsules, diarrhoea stop pills
Dappa-Williams went on to say, “We also have other products that failed to meet the statutory import guidelines for destruction,” in her subsequent remarks. Courts of competent jurisdiction have all condemned the aforementioned items, which have a duty-paid value of N12.9 billion, and Control’s Jamila Ashiru stated that other agencies collaborated on the seizure.
Because the volume would have been enormous if it had entered the system, the Customs and other agencies are in the port to ensure that it did not.
“Some of these products have never been registered, others are illegal, and so forth.” Additionally, we have an attorney department for those arrested. As a result, the legal department is working on it, so we should hear soon about a possible prosecution.
