Overvoting was discovered in two polling units, hence a supplementary election will be held in the Anambra West and Anambra East Federal Constituency.
The announcement was delivered on Monday in Otuocha, Anambra East Local Government Area, by the Returning Officer, Ugochukwu Okafor.
According to him, 1,113 people were registered to vote in the two impacted polling places, but 28,579 ballots were cast.
According to him, 2,555 voters were registered at Voting Unit 004 in Aguleri Ward’s Umualum Square, while 2,558 voters were registered at Polling Unit 007 in Aguleri Ward’s Umugalagu.
He went on to say that after the dust settled, Peter Anaekwe of the Labour Party (LP) had won with 14,847 votes and Chinedu Obidigwe of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) had come in second with 13,782 votes.
Obidigwe now serves as the district’s representative in Congress.
Mr Okafor said that a new date would be selected to conduct a fresh election in the two polling units in accordance with INEC procedures and the Electoral Act 2022.
