“International Women’s Day 2026: APC Leader Praises Oluremi Tinubu’s Advocacy for Women, Children and Vulnerable Nigerians”
An influential chieftain of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for her continued advocacy for women, children, and vulnerable populations, describing her initiatives as impactful and aligned with the spirit of International Women’s Day (IWD).
Speaking during activities marking International Women’s Day, the party stalwart highlighted the First Lady’s sustained efforts to promote gender equality, improve access to opportunities for women, and amplify support systems for children and disadvantaged communities across Nigeria. According to the APC leader, her programmes and public engagements have contributed to raising awareness about social inclusion and the protection of vulnerable groups.
Oluremi Tinubu, wife of Nigeria’s president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has in recent months intensified advocacy around women’s empowerment, education for the girl child, and social welfare initiatives. Through various outreach efforts and policy support, the First Lady has emphasized the importance of expanding opportunities for women to participate meaningfully in governance, economic development, and community leadership.
The APC chieftain further noted that International Women’s Day serves as a critical platform to recognize women’s achievements while also addressing persistent barriers such as gender inequality, limited economic participation, and inadequate access to education and healthcare. He urged stakeholders across government, civil society, and the private sector to strengthen partnerships that support women and children, particularly in developing regions of Africa.
International Women’s Day, observed globally every year on March 8, celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while advocating for accelerated gender parity. Across Nigeria and other African nations, the occasion has increasingly become a focal point for policy dialogue, advocacy campaigns, and community driven initiatives aimed at empowering women and protecting vulnerable groups.
Analysts note that advocacy by political leaders and public figures can play a significant role in shaping national conversations about gender equality, particularly in regions where women continue to face structural barriers to opportunity and representation.
