In a significant development announced on Tuesday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) disclosed that, starting in 2024, candidates undertaking the Direct Entry examination will be required to undergo cognitive and verbal reasoning tests. Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, emphasized this during a virtual meeting with Commissioners of Education from all states.
As per the information shared by the Board, the Aptitude Test for Direct Entry candidates will assess their academic potential, career suitability, and mental or physical capacity. Unlike traditional subject-based tests, this intelligent assessment will include Verbal, Abstract, Mechanical and Numeric Reasoning, Data Checking, and Work Sampling.
Moreover, the Registrar clarified that Direct Entry registration will only be conducted at JAMB Offices nationwide. During registration, candidates must furnish details such as the Registration/Matriculation Number from the previous school, subjects of qualification, awarding institution, institution attended, and year of graduation, along with admission letters where necessary.
This adjustment aims to provide a more holistic evaluation of candidates beyond traditional subject-based assessments, fostering a comprehensive understanding of their capabilities.
