In a significant breakthrough in the fight against crime, the Kaduna State Police Command has successfully dismantled a gun-running syndicate responsible for supplying firearms to criminal elements in the region. In a series of operations conducted recently, police apprehended two notorious gunrunners and an informant linked to kidnapping activities, while also rescuing two individuals who had been targeted for abduction.
According to Mansir Hassan, the Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Police Command, the arrests were made on August 20 2024, in Madaci Village, Zaria. The suspects, identified as Abulaziz Habibu and Nuhu Thomas, were intercepted by operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit while attempting to transport a fabricated AK-47 rifle. Following their arrest, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the illicit arms trade, supplying weapons to bandits operating in the Zaria area. Their confessions have provided police with valuable leads for ongoing investigations into the broader network of gun-running and criminal activities in the state.
In a separate but related operation conducted on August 18, police officers responded to reports of gunfire in Kuriga Village, which led to the foiling of a kidnapping attempt. During this operation, law enforcement officials rescued two farmers who had been attacked by bandits. The swift action taken by the police not only saved the victims but also forced the assailants to flee, abandoning their captives.
Additionally, the police apprehended Abubakar Yahuza, an informant for the kidnappers, at Gidan Abeh Village in the Kagarko Local Government Area. This arrest is particularly noteworthy as it highlights the intricate connections between local informants and criminal groups. Hassan reported that Yahuza admitted to relaying information to kidnappers who are believed to operate from the nearby Gidan Dogo Forest, further complicating the landscape of crime in the region.
Commissioner of Police Audu Dabigi praised the efforts of the officers involved in these operations, commending their courage and dedication. He emphasized the importance of community support in the fight against crime, urging residents to provide credible information that can assist the police in their ongoing efforts. “The collaboration between the police and the community is essential for effective law enforcement,” Dabigi stated. “We rely on the vigilance and cooperation of the public to help us combat these criminal elements.”
The successful operations by the Kaduna State Police Command reflect a broader commitment to enhancing security and public safety in the region. As the police continue to target and dismantle criminal networks, the cooperation of the community remains a crucial element in ensuring lasting peace and stability.
In conclusion, the recent arrests and rescue operations in Kaduna serve as a testament to the relentless efforts of law enforcement to tackle the challenges posed by gun-running and kidnapping. With ongoing investigations and community engagement, the police aim to create a safer environment for all residents, reaffirming their commitment to upholding law and order in the state.
