The Federal High Court in Kano is presided over by Justice S.A. Amobeda sentenced notorious drug trafficker Muhammad Sambo to 10 years in prison.
Sambo was one of seven drug traffickers arrested by the State Narcotics Law Enforcement Agency, Kano State Command in October.
In a statement released to journalists on Monday, the command’s public relations officer, Sadiq Maigatari, said Sambo had been found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Mr Maigatari said the judgment was led by the National Commander, Abubakar Ahmad.
He said the NDLEA commander had been working tirelessly to rid the country of illegal drug activities, adding that the successful prosecution was a sign of the illegal trade in cannabis and other illegal drugs operated by Mr. Kano. It added that it would send a clear message to everyone involved in the transport. That’s not the basis for them.

The statement read: “Sambo is involved in the transportation of large quantities of cannabis from Ondo and other southern states to the north and on November 11, 2020, He was arrested.
“NDLEA officers who were patrolling along the Kano-Zaria road became suspicious and stopped the Honda Accord, which initially refused to stop. As a result of pursuit, the suspect was located in Hotoro area of Kano state.
“Following investigation, 201kg of dried leaves, believed to be cannabis, were recovered from Sambo’s car.The real identity of the suspect and his residence in Lokogoma, Abuja were later confirmed.
“Laboratory testing of the substance confirmed that it was cannabis, strengthening the case against Sambo. Ta.”
