Kano Governor Abba Yusuf Swears In Sanusi Bature, Former Speaker Balarabe Gani as Commissioners.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has sworn in two new commissioners, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa and former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Balarabe Saidu Gani, into the state’s Executive Council.

The swearing in ceremony took place on Friday, November 6, 2026, at the Government House in Kano, following the confirmation of their nominations by the state House of Assembly.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Maude, administered the oaths of office at the ceremony.

Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who previously served as the Governor’s Director General of Media and Publicity and official spokesperson, has been appointed Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs. Balarabe Saidu Gani, a former Speaker of the state Assembly, will oversee the Ministry of Solid Minerals Resources.

Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the lawmakers for their cooperation and prompt screening and confirmation of the nominees.

He urged the newly appointed commissioners to demonstrate dedication, professionalism, transparency and accountability in carrying out their responsibilities, stressing that public office represents a commitment to serving the people.

The governor also encouraged the appointees to justify the confidence placed in them by contributing meaningfully to the administration’s development agenda.

Bature’s appointment places a former senior government communications official in charge of the state’s information ministry, where expectations include strengthening public communication and improving engagement between the government and residents.

During his legislative screening, Bature reportedly identified the revitalisation of government-owned media organisations, including Radio Kano, Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) and Triumph Newspaper, as priorities.

Meanwhile, Gani’s appointment to the Solid Minerals Resources Ministry comes amid broader efforts to strengthen the state’s economic sectors and explore opportunities for economic diversification.

The appointments form part of Governor Yusuf’s ongoing efforts to constitute and reposition his cabinet as his administration pursues its governance and development priorities.

Their performance in the respective ministries will be closely watched, particularly in delivering effective public communication, strengthening institutional capacity and promoting sustainable economic opportunities for Kano State.
