Officials of the Katsina State Police Command on Saturday afternoon rescued a kidnapped victim, Mr Tukur Adamu (40), in Kankara Local Government Area of the state.
According to police, the man was shot by his captors, injuring his left thigh, and was later abandoned on the outskirts of the town’s Shinsaku village.
A police team spotted the man during a routine patrol, rescued him and took him to hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
The victim is said to be from Masaku village in Kankara LGA.
Spokesperson of the command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the development to Punch Metro on Sunday.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Adamu Aliyu, commended the efforts of the command staff.
A spokesperson said: “On November 4, 2023, at around 1pm, during a routine patrol, the command foiled a kidnapping attempt and was able to rescue 40-year-old Tukur Adamu from Masaku village in Kankara Local Government Area.”
“As when the command personnel arrived on the outskirts of Masaku village, they experienced a disturbing kidnapping situation where the victim was in a dangerous situation.The police officers, without hesitation, quickly and Responded decisively to the situation, effectively neutralizing the threat and rescuing the victim.
“The victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the left thigh, was immediately transported to the hospital for treatment. , and is currently progressing well with treatment.
“The Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar Musa, of the Katsina State Command, has commended the police officers for their extraordinary courage and pledged the command to continue its efforts to ensure the safety of the people of Katsina State and ensure the deterrence of crime. He reiterated the department’s resolve that the situation is minimal. He also appealed to anyone with useful information regarding this incident or any other criminal activity to come forward and ensure law and order in the state.
