Kebbi Government Dismisses Viral Ramadan Palliative Video, Says Man Featured Is a Psychiatric Patient”

The Kebbi State Government has dismissed a widely circulated social media video alleging irregularities in the distribution of Ramadan palliatives, describing the footage as a “stage managed drama.” State officials said the man featured in the viral clip is a psychiatric patient and insisted that the video does not accurately represent the government’s relief efforts during the holy month.
The controversy emerged after the video began trending online, with the man claiming he received inadequate food support under a Ramadan relief programme. The footage quickly sparked debate across Nigeria, with many social media users questioning the transparency and effectiveness of palliative distribution meant to support vulnerable communities during the fasting period.
Responding to the growing public reaction, the Kebbi State Government said its investigation found that the individual in the video has a history of mental health challenges and that the clip was manipulated to create a misleading narrative. Officials maintained that the state’s Ramadan palliative programme is being implemented fairly and is targeted at supporting low income households across various communities.
Government representatives further urged the public to verify information before sharing online content capable of inflaming tensions or undermining public trust in social welfare programmes. They reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability in delivering humanitarian assistance, particularly during Ramadan when many families rely on such support to cope with rising living costs.
