Kidnappers Kill Driver, Abduct Three in GUO Bus Attack Along Ore–Benin Highway

The Edo State Police Command has launched an intensive rescue operation following a deadly attack on a commercial bus along the Lagos–Benin Expressway.

The incident occurred on April 18, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m. in the Iguobazuwa axis, where a bus belonging to GUO Transport Company, with registration number FA 280 YJ, was ambushed by suspected kidnappers.

Police said the vehicle, which was conveying five passengers, came under attack by armed men, resulting in the fatal shooting of the driver.

In a swift response, operatives rescued one female passenger who sustained gunshot injuries. She was immediately taken to a hospital and is reportedly responding to treatment.
However, three other passengers were abducted by the assailants and taken into a nearby forest.

The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Monday Agbonika, has since ordered a coordinated rescue operation across the Ore–Benin axis and adjoining forest areas.

Area Commanders have been directed to lead intensive search efforts, while operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit have been deployed to support ongoing operations.

Tactical teams, working alongside local hunters and vigilante groups, are currently combing the forests in a bid to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

The body of the deceased driver has been deposited at a hospital mortuary, while the attacked vehicle has been recovered.

The police command assured the public of its commitment to securing the safe release of the abducted victims and bringing those responsible to justice.

Residents have also been urged to remain calm and provide credible information that could assist security agencies in the ongoing operation.
