Lagos Lawmaker Launches Road Repairs in Ikorodu After 28-Year Neglect

Article:

Residents of the Araromi area in Ikorodu, Lagos State, may soon experience long-awaited relief as House of Representatives member Babajimi Benson has begun rehabilitating the neglected Araromi-Adamo road.

The rehabilitation work, which commenced on Thursday, aims to revitalize the 1.3-kilometer road, neglected since 1996. Representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Benson, under the ruling All Progressives Congress, plans to complete the project within three months.

Muyideen Sanwo-Ola, Executive Assistant on Parks to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, attended the launch on Benson’s behalf, urging the community to cooperate with contractors to ensure timely completion. He encouraged residents to support the project and advised local youths to avoid any actions that might delay the work.

Many community members expressed their appreciation, including Ademoriti Maruf, who shared that the road had been in disrepair since its initial construction in 1996 under then-military administrator Buba Marwa. He thanked Benson, noting it was the first meaningful intervention the area had received in decades.

The chief of Olufuja-Mojoda Araromi, Qazeem Oyeniran, described the challenges residents faced, especially during heavy rains, which caused severe flooding, property damage, and safety hazards. Oyeniran voiced hope that the project’s completion would transform their daily lives.

Similarly, Chief Nurudeen Shiriki, the Baale of Upenyanwa, welcomed the repairs, explaining that flooding had often made the road impassable, leaving residents stranded or abandoning vehicles for weeks. He expressed confidence that the restored road would bring much-needed relief and mobility to the community.
