According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, a fire outbreak at the Mandilas building in Lagos was caused by careless welding during the installation of a power generating set on the second floor.
The fire started on the first floor and spread to the fourth floor of the 10-storey building on Broad Street, Lagos Island. Emergency responders from various stations were able to contain the fire and prevent it from engulfing the entire building. Six people sustained minor injuries, but there were no reported fatalities.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu urged calm and commended the firefighting teams and other first responders for their dedication.
