Survivors of Monday night’s bomb blasts in Maiduguri, Borno State, have recounted their harrowing experiences, describing the multiple explosions as reminiscent of a war situation. The attacks, which occurred at the Post Office area, Monday Market, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) gate, have left at least 23 people dead and 108 injured, according to the Borno State police command.

Eyewitnesses put the death toll at over 40, with many more injured. Survivors described the chaos and panic that ensued after the blasts, with people running in different directions and screaming for help.

“I heard a loud sound and my neck started bleeding,” said Abacha Mustapha, a victim who sustained injuries in the blast. “It was chaotic. People were running in different directions. Some fell, others were shouting. I couldn’t even understand what had happened at first.”

The Nigerian Army has confirmed that the attacks were carried out by Boko Haram suicide bombers and has warned that more bombers may be lurking in the state capital. President Bola Tinubu has condemned the attacks and ordered service chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation.Maiduguri Explosions: Survivors Recount Ordeals,

The attacks have sparked widespread condemnation, with Northern governors and Senator Ali Ndume calling for urgent action to address the security situation in the country. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has warned that the resurgence of terrorism could erode public confidence in the government and called for a review of security strategies.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has also condemned the attacks, criticizing President Tinubu for being abroad on a state visit to the UK while Nigerians are mourning.
