The Edo State Police Command has recorded a major operational breakthrough following a coordinated midnight raid carried out on March 2, 2026.
The operation, which took place at about 2:45 a.m., was launched based on credible intelligence indicating that suspected kidnappers were sighted around Zango and Max Square Properties in Aviele, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, further technical analysis linked ransom negotiation activities to the area, prompting tactical teams from the State Headquarters to collaborate with operatives from Area Command Auchi and Area Command Ekpoma to storm the identified hideouts.
The raid led to the arrest of 65 suspected kidnappers.
Police operatives also recovered exhibits including the sum of ₦1,850,000, believed to be ransom proceeds, as well as Nigerian Army uniforms and other incriminating items.
No casualty was recorded during the operation.
The suspects and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Police Headquarters in Benin City, where they are currently undergoing investigation to determine their level of involvement in kidnapping activities.
The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives for their professionalism and bravery during the operation.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to dismantling kidnapping networks across the state and urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible information that will aid ongoing security operations.
