Oybe Michael, the man who allegedly demanded a sum of N100,000 for some police officers to prepare a report after a car accident at Parking Area C in Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State where he lodged the complaint.Man accuses Ogun police officer of demanding N100,000 for accident report

Speaking to Punch Metro on Monday, Mr Oyibe said his car was damaged when it collided with a public bus while making a U-turn. Officers then arrived at the scene to take photographs and took the vehicle to Morwe District Police Station.

He said: “We were asked to write a statement and provide vehicle documents and then made copies as per the instructions, even though the professional driver was unable to provide vehicle documents.

“The owner of the commercial vehicle requested compensation of NOK 100,000, but according to the Federal Road Safety Corps official with whom we filed the complaint, the compensation was I refused because it was split equally between both parties involved.Accident.

“The policemen were on the side of the commercial driver even when my friend told them that the commercial driver drove under the influence of alcohol, but they shunned him.”

Oyibe informed our correspondent that he contacted the company he insured his car with the next day to come to his aid but one of the criteria laid was for him to present a police report, in which he applied for one immediately.

“One of the senior officers said the police report is N100,000. Then, I met two different officers who told me the same price and referred me to a female inspector to clear my doubt.

“The inspector said the report is N100,000 but if she wants to help me, the least she could collect is N50,000 . She is even the one that will write it and give the DPO to sign. I then asked to meet the DPO myself but she refused,” Oyebe said.

Mr Oyebe further added: “My car has been in police custody since October 13 and I cannot be released unless the public bus is repaired.”

When contacted, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Mr Omolola Odutola, said police reports are an official duty and are normally paid for by the police. The charges against her by the authorities were irrelevant to her.

“This is an accepted report from the police to the public confirming the incident. There is money for that.

“We do not know the price. The complainant should report to our office in Abeokuta,” Odutola said.
