A 33-year-old man, Obinna Nwigwe, has been arrested by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command for allegedly shooting his friend, Andrew Philemon, during an argument at the Najob Guest House in Bwari, Abuja.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident took place on Thursday, following a distress call about gunfire in the area. When officers arrived, they found Philemon critically injured from a gunshot wound.
Nwigwe, who was armed with a pump-action rifle, claimed the shooting was in self-defense after the argument escalated. Police officers arrested him at the scene and later conducted a search of his residence, uncovering a variety of weapons.
Among the items found were five Dane guns, a single-barrelled gun, an AK-47 magazine containing live ammunition, a taser, a bulletproof vest, and multiple sets of police uniforms.
Philemon is currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital in Abuja, while Nwigwe remains in police custody pending further investigations.
The FCT Police Command has expressed its commitment to addressing violent crime and ensuring the safety of residents, emphasizing the dangers of illegal firearm possession. The police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to
authorities.
