MEMBERS OF OSN IN EBONYI STATE OBSERVE OBESITY DAY- By Maxwell Okechukwu Abakaliki.

The members of  Obesity Society of Nigeria,  OSN, A National Association of World Obesity Federation in Ebonyi State have joined their counterparts worldwide in marking this year 2025 Obesity day with a warning that Obesity is a serious health condition

The event Tagged Changing  System Walk for healthier Life,  started with road walk  which kicked off with crowd of people and  members at the State township Stadium in Abakaliki the State Capital, walking  round strategic Areas in Abakaliki,  the capital City of Ebonyi State.

They enlightened the  public on the Associations services to the society through personalized weight management plans such as Nutrition Counseling, physical activity coaching, street management techniques and the ongoing support and monitoring.

The National  President of the Obesity of Nigeria, Dr. Mrs. Agbo Urudinachi while addressing  Newsman during  the road walk disclosed that   Obesity is a serious health condition that affects millions of people worldwide and it increases the risk of developing chronic diseases like diabetes, heart diseases and certain types  of cancer.”

She further explains the causes of Obesity to include Genetics, Unhealthy diet,Physical inactivity, Stress, Certain medical Conditions, medications and socioeconomic factors.

She advised that one should seek for medical professional  help to improve their  overall health and well being in other to reduce  the risk of chronic diseases and also to boost  their energy levels and confidence to enhance their  quality of life.

On her part,Dr. Mrs. Nwobasi William Ndidiamaka. the  President, Medical Women  Association of Nigeria, Ebonyi State Chapter,  called on the members of the society to visit their lifestyle clinic to get professional help  and guidance on how they are to be managing their weight and adopting a healthier lifestyle.

She also made known that their experts are at the Community health Department at Federal Teaching Hospital (FETHA 2)in Abakaliki. to support members of  the public.

Other Executive members who spoke include Dr.  Mrs. Ifenyinwa Okeke. the   Medical Women Association of Nigeria National outreach Committee chairman, Who expressed worry over challenges that majority of people in the society  are Ignorant about what Obesity is all about.

” Children are becoming victims of Obesity,  according to  record, following the manner and types of food some of the parents are giving to them at home,” she noted

She  therefore called on parents to be mindful of their children in order not to be victims of   Obesity at their early stage of life.
