Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, aka “El Mencho”, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), was killed in a military operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco, Mexico on February 22, 2026. El Mencho was one of Mexico’s most wanted fugitives, with a $15 million bounty on his head, and was considered one of the biggest drug suspects taken down since the capture of Sinaloa cartel founders Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman and Ismael Zambada, who are currently serving time in the US
The CJNG, formed in 2009, is known for its extreme violence and is responsible for sending cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and fentanyl from Mexico to the US.
