A woman identified as Blessing Ibuku has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly killing her 10-month-old child by throwing the infant into a community river.
The tragic incident occurred on November 31, 2024. According to police investigations, the child, Prevail Jonathan, was thrown into the Aviara community river after the mother claimed she was mocked for having a fatherless child. The baby’s lifeless body was discovered on December 4, 2024.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, disclosed the case during a press briefing in Asaba, where over 30 suspects involved in various crimes, including robbery, kidnapping, and cultism, were paraded. He noted that Ibuku confessed to the act and is currently in custody as investigations continue.
The police command also shared updates on other recent operations, highlighting efforts to combat crime and improve safety across the state. In the past month, 678 suspects were arrested, and 150 arms, including 32 AK-47 rifles, were recovered.
Olufemi reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and urged residents to provide useful information to aid security efforts.
