“MTN Nigeria Warns Subscribers Over Fake 25GB Anniversary Data Giveaway Scam”
MTN Nigeria has warned its subscribers against a fraudulent online promotion falsely claiming that the telecommunications company is giving customers 25GB of free data as part of an anniversary celebration. The warning comes amid the continued spread of deceptive promotions designed to lure unsuspecting users into clicking suspicious links and surrendering personal information.
The telecom operator has previously cautioned customers about similar fake data offers circulating online, stressing that unauthorized promotions claiming to provide free data are not affiliated with MTN. According to reports by Legit.ng and Nigerian Communication week, MTN urged customers not to click on links attached to such offers or submit their phone numbers and other personal details on third-party websites. The company said it would not require customers to provide their information on external platforms to claim legitimate data or rewards.
MTN has advised subscribers to verify promotions through its recognized communication channels, including its official website, verified social media platforms and authorized MTN services. The company’s official information also identifies channels such as the myMTN NG App, USSD services, MTN eShop and Zigi for legitimate data-related transactions and promotions. Subscribers are therefore encouraged to treat unsolicited messages promising unusually large data rewards with caution, particularly when they require users to share personal information or follow unfamiliar links.
The warning highlights the growing risks posed by online impersonation and promotional scams targeting Nigerian telecom subscribers. Customers who encounter the alleged 25GB anniversary giveaway should avoid sharing sensitive information, refrain from forwarding suspicious links and verify any promotion directly through MTN’s official platforms before taking action.
