Na 8.51 Million Terabytes of Data Nigerians Don Chop for Just Six Months.
Nigeria don use 8.51 million terabytes (TB) of data for the first six months of 2026, and this one dey show say internet don become big part of everyday life for the country. According to data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), data consumption rise from 1.385 million TB for January reach 1.532 million TB for June.
For the six months, Nigerians use 1.260 million TB for February, 1.422 million TB for March, 1.414 million TB for April, 1.504 million TB for May, before June record the highest figure of 1.532 million TB. The increase dey come as more Nigerians dey use internet for social media, video streaming, online business, fintech, remote work, education and other digital services.
MTN and Airtel figures also show how much Nigerians now depend on data. MTN say active data subscribers dey use average 14.8GB every month, while Airtel average usage reach 14.9GB per customer. MTN also record N1.70 trillion data revenue for the period, while Airtel Nigeria make about N691 billion, meaning both companies together generate around N2.4 trillion from data services during the first half of 2026.
The development show say Nigeria telecom industry dey move strongly from voice calls toward data driven services. But as data usage dey increase, consumers still dey face issues like expensive bundles, slow internet, network instability and poor coverage in some areas. Industry experts say more investment for fibre, 4G, 5G infrastructure and better network capacity go remain important if Nigeria wan keep up with the growing demand for internet.
