The 4 Brigade Chapter of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) has commemorated this year’s International Women’s Day with a programme focused on health awareness, physical fitness, and women’s empowerment within military communities in Edo State.

The event, held on March 17, 2026, at the NAOWA Skills Acquisition Centre in Ekehuan Military Cantonment, Benin City, drew a large turnout of barrack women, reflecting a shared commitment to personal wellbeing and community development.
Speaking at the event, the Zonal Coordinator of NAOWA 4 Brigade Chapter, Mrs. Mariam Aina Balogun, highlighted the significance of the celebration and disclosed that the theme for this year is “Give to Gain: For All Women and Girls – Rights, Equality and Empowerment.” She emphasized the critical role of women in societal growth and stability, urging them to promote unity, resilience, and self-development.
In his goodwill message, the Commander, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, commended NAOWA members for their support to their families and contributions to nation-building.
He described them as resilient and indispensable pillars of the military community, stressing the need for sustained empowerment initiatives for women.
Also speaking, the Special Guest of Honour, Mrs. Eyitoyosi Shonibare, reaffirmed NAOWA’s commitment to improving the welfare of military families and promoting community development. She encouraged women to prioritize their physical and mental health while striving for personal growth.
The event featured a range of activities, including a road walk, group fitness sessions, and a Zumba exercise aimed at promoting healthy living.
Drama presentations by NAOWA students and members of the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), alongside cultural dance displays, added colour to the celebration.
A major highlight was a medical awareness session where participants received practical guidance on first aid, fire prevention, and emergency response.
