National Grid Suffers Second Collapse in Two Days

As Nigerians anticipate full power restoration, the national grid has collapsed again, marking the second incident in two days and the 10th collapse this year.

By 11 a.m. Thursday, only 2,323 megawatts of electricity were being generated from 22 power plants, with production levels dropping to zero. The day’s peak generation had reached 3,743 megawatts around 10 a.m.

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company reported a power outage at 11:29 a.m., informing customers of a system outage that disrupted supply across its network. The company assured that efforts to restore power were underway in collaboration with key stakeholders.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has yet to release an update, while this latest event brings the total number of grid collapses to 11 in 2024 alone.
