Three businessmen—Emeka Nwanolue, Friday Ogbe, and Isaac Onwumere—have been arrested after the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized shipments of methamphetamine and Loud cannabis worth billions of naira. The drugs, weighing 83.301 kilograms, were hidden in automobile spare parts imported from Canada and destined for distribution during the festive season.
According to an NDLEA statement, the seizure followed months of intelligence tracking across three continents. The first container, holding 5.001kg of methamphetamine, was found wrapped in a bedsheet inside a Toyota Camry. The second container contained 1,735 parcels of Loud packed in jumbo bags and six coolers with 78.3kg of methamphetamine.
The intercepted drugs, valued at over N2.2 billion in total, were traced to warehouses in Lagos’ Ladipo auto parts market. The operation involved detailed monitoring of the shipments from Canada, through Europe, and into Nigeria.
In a related development, NDLEA operatives at the Port Harcourt Port Complex seized 636,600 bottles of codeine syrup worth N4.5 billion in shipments from India. These seizures highlight the agency’s intensified efforts against drug trafficking.
