“NDLEA Intercepts Ex Okada Rider After He Excretes 100 Wraps of Methamphetamine Smuggled from Uganda into Lagos”
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a former commercial motorcycle (okada) rider after he allegedly excreted 100 wraps of methamphetamine concealed in his body while attempting to smuggle the illicit drug into Nigeria through Lagos.
According to the NDLEA, the suspect was apprehended during intelligence led operations at a Lagos entry point after arriving from Uganda. Anti narcotics officers placed him under close medical observation, during which he reportedly excreted 100 wraps of methamphetamine over a monitored period, confirming suspicions that he had ingested the drugs to evade detection.
The agency said the arrest forms part of its intensified nationwide crackdown on international drug trafficking networks that use body-packers to transport narcotics across borders. NDLEA has repeatedly warned that such methods expose traffickers to severe health risks, including fatal overdose if the drug packages rupture inside the body.
Officials stated that investigations are ongoing to identify and dismantle the criminal syndicate behind the attempted shipment. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening border surveillance, intelligence gathering, and international cooperation to curb the trafficking of dangerous substances into Nigeria.
The latest arrest underscores the growing challenge posed by transnational drug trafficking routes linking East Africa to West Africa. Security experts say increased collaboration between regional law enforcement agencies remains critical to disrupting organized criminal networks involved in the illicit drug trade.
The NDLEA has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible intelligence to assist authorities in combating drug related crimes across the country.
