Newborn, Parents Escape Death as Fire Ravages Buildings in Ilorin, Kwara State.
A newborn baby and the child’s parents narrowly escaped death after a fire reportedly ravaged their apartment and other buildings in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Tuesday morning.
The incident raised concerns about residential fire safety and the risks posed by rapidly spreading flames in densely populated neighbourhoods. However, details regarding the exact location, the extent of the damage and the circumstances surrounding the outbreak remain unconfirmed.
The incident comes amid other reported fire outbreaks in Kwara State. On October 26, 2026, a fire destroyed a three bedroom flat in Kangile Village, within Ilorin South Local Government Area. According to the Kwara State Fire Service, firefighters responded to the incident, but the flames had already spread throughout the building before they arrived. The cause of the fire was still under investigation.
The fire service urged residents to report fire outbreaks immediately, maintain electrical installations and observe basic fire prevention measures to reduce the risk of similar incidents.
Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the reported incident involving the newborn and the child’s parents, including the number of buildings affected and the extent of the loses.
