On the 1st and 2nd of August, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) intends to commemorate its 60th anniversary with planned activities.
The Comptroller of NIS in Kwara State, Aminu Shamsuddin disclosed this during a meeting with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Friday.
According to the comptroller, the Ag. Mrs. Caroline Adepoju, the NIS Comptroller General, has instructed each state to commemorate the remarkable event.
Shamsuddin reviewed that the NIS was previously known as the Immigration Department, however later removed from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in 1958.
“On first of August, 1963, the Immigration Department turned into its very own element, as it was officially established by an Act of Parliament, CAP 171, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria and became Nigeria Immigration service,” he said.
