Nigeria Strengthens Airpower with M-346 Fighter Aircraft Acquisition from Italy

Air Marshal Aneke made this statement during his visit to Leonardo Aircraft Division in Milan, Italy, highlighting the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) progress in modernizing its fleet. He described the M-346 programme as a “critical leap” in renewing NAF’s combat capability, enhancing precision strike operations, training outcomes, and regional deterrence posture.

The CAS emphasized the importance of timely delivery, training, and logistical support to ensure rapid operational readiness. Discussions with Leonardo focused on synchronizing delivery timelines with Nigeria’s Main Operating Base readiness and establishing a support office in Nigeria.

Leonardo’s Senior Vice President, Sales, Mr. Andrea Mirteto, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to Nigeria, assuring timely delivery and cooperation under the AW-109 Trekker and M-346 programmes

Air Marshal Aneke reassured Nigerians that the NAF, alongside other security agencies, remains committed to addressing national security challenges, investing in modern platforms, training, and partnerships to build a capable and resilient Air Force.
