Former President Goodluck Jonathan praised Gowon’s leadership during Nigeria’s most challenging periods, highlighting his role in establishing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)
Vice President Kashim Shettima warned against division and suspicion, emphasizing the need for Nigerians to engage honestly with their history.
Emir Sanusi argued that history remembers leaders for their character, citing Gowon’s empathy and integrity as examples for younger Nigerians.
The event underscored concerns about Nigeria’s current political tension and distrust, but also reaffirmed the nation’s resilience and potential for growth
