In a major operation aimed at curbing oil theft in the Niger Delta, troops of the 6th Division of the Nigerian Army, working with other security agencies, have arrested 28 suspected oil thieves and recovered over 290,000 litres of stolen petroleum products.
The operation, which took place between targeted illegal refining sites and smuggling routes across Rivers, Abia, Delta, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom states
Operations along the PAN Ocean Pipeline recovered 1,650 litres of stolen fuel vandalized pipes, vehicles (including a Peugeot 406, Camry and Toyota Jeep) and 24 pieces of 14-inch pipes from a Mercedes-Benz truck.
Intensified kinetic and non-kinetic operations have disrupted criminal networks, denying them freedom of movement.
The General Officer Commanding 6th Division, Major General *Emmanuel Eric Emekah*, praised the troops for their efforts and urged them to maintain the momentum, emphasizing the Army’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s oil resources.
This operation underscores the Nigerian military’s ongoing battle against oil thefta major drain on the country’s economy and a source of environmental degradation in the Niger Delta region.
