North Korean leader Kim Jong has reaffirmed his country’s support for Russia, stating that Pyongyang will always stand with Moscow. The pledge came in a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, published by state media, following Kim’s reappointment as head of North Korea’s highest policymaking body.
The two countries have strengthened ties since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, with North Korea providing troops, artillery shells, and missiles to aid Russia’s war effort. Analysts believe this support is in exchange for food and weapons technology from Russia

Kim’s letter highlights the growing cooperation between the two nations, with a military deal struck during Putin’s visit to Pyongyang in June 2026 obligating mutual defense assistance. The development comes as Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko prepares to visit North Korea to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
