The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has appealed to the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Ewuare II, for support in addressing operational and logistics challenges facing the corps in Edo State.
The Commandant of NSCDC in Edo State, Akintayo Saidi Ayinla, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin at his palace in Benin City, where he also sought royal prayers for the corps to effectively carry out its mandate.
Ayinla highlighted the critical roles of the NSCDC, which include protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, ensuring public safety, and supporting other security agencies in maintaining law and order across the country.
He noted that logistics remains one of the major challenges confronting the command.“However, Your Majesty, one of our greatest challenges at the moment is logistics.
Most of our operational vehicles are in deplorable condition, hindering our ability to respond promptly to distress calls in the state. It is in this regard that we seek Your Royal Majesty’s support,” he said.
In his response, Oba Ewuare II commended the personnel of the NSCDC for their efforts in maintaining security, while also drawing the commandant’s attention to certain areas of concern in Edo State.
The first-class traditional ruler acknowledged the request and prayed to God and the ancestors to continue to protect the officers and men of the corps from harm.
“You and your team are doing wonderfully well.
We believe the Federal Government is building the corps tremendously,” the monarch said, while also expressing delight over ongoing reforms in the NSCDC by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
