NYCN Congress: Factional President is on a frolic of his own- Edo Exc

The Edo State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has dismissed a letter making the rounds in social media purportedly written by Mr. Sukubo Saraigbe Sukubo, factional President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria claiming to have set up a Caretaker Committee to call for a Management Committee meeting. In a statement signed by the outgoing Chairman of NYCN Edo State Chapter, Comrade Osahon Obasuyi, the Edo State Exco discountenanced the contents of the said letter, stating that it has no binding effect on Edo State Youth Council.

According to Comrade Obasuyi, “This clarification became necessary, because of the phone calls members of his Exco were receiving from stakeholders, aspirants, and interested members of the public. The ongoing process leading to the Elective Congress coming up between the 29th and 30th of November, 2022 cannot be truncated by Mr. Sukubo’s letter, because the State Management Committee at its well-attended meeting approved the setting up of the various committees to conduct election in the State Chapter, in line with the NYCN Constitution.”

“The claim by Sukubo that the tenure of the outgoing NYCN Executives in the State has expired and therefore created a vacuum in Edo State Youth Council is patently false. The process for elective congress where new executives of the Edo State Chapter of the Youth Council will be chosen is ongoing and as a matter of fact, the election is in a few days. We will therefore not hesitate to report any unscrupulous element offering themselves as willing tools to destabilize the peace of NYCN Edo. All legal means will be explored to deal with perpetrators of crisis and violence in the State Youth Council.

He added that:

“We, therefore, advise Sukubo Saraigbe Sukubo to follow our lead and practice what he teaches, by showing a good example of calling for a National Management Committee Meeting with the aim of setting up various committees that will lead Nigerian Youths to a National Elective Congress. Besides, the mandate he claims to have or enjoy as factional National President has since expired. Therefore, he doesn’t even have the locus standing to write such a letter.

“Edo State Youths and, indeed, the public is advised to ignore the said letter and continue to focus on the ongoing processes leading to the elective congress coming up early next week.
