NYSC DG Commends Enugu Governor for Increasing Corps Members’ Allowance

The Director-General of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has praised Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for increasing the monthly allowance of corps members serving in the state to N20,000. Nafiu also commended the governor for the ongoing reconstruction of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Awgu, describing it as a gesture that showcases the governor’s appreciation for the NYSC scheme.

Governor Mbah assured Nafiu that the state government is committed to completing the reconstruction of the Awgu Permanent Orientation Camp within the shortest time possible. Mbah noted that the NYSC scheme is a platform that brings young people across cultures, faith, and regions together to serve their motherland and deepen their love for their country. He expressed appreciation to the NYSC for the intervention the state received from the scheme, highlighting that corps members are assisting the state government in its development programs, including working in hospitals and teaching at public and private schools.NYSC DG Commends Enugu Governor for Increasing Corps Members' Allowance

The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Lloyd Ekweremadu, disclosed that corps members working in the medical sector in the state are already receiving their increments. Doctors and nurses are currently receiving N80,000 and N40,000 respectively, while N20,000 would be rolled out for others soon.

Nafiu emphasized that the NYSC scheme instills discipline in Nigerian youths, revealing that he approved the extension of the service year of 131 corps members found wanting. He encouraged corps members to respect the culture, norms, and values of their host states to foster cultural integration. Nafiu also disclosed that 11,116 Enugu state indigenes are serving in different parts of the country, while 5,636 indigenes of the state are serving in different parts of the state
