Oba Ewuare II Raises Concern Over Rising Global Conflicts During Army Commander’s Visit

Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, has expressed concern over rising global tensions involving the United States, Iran and Israel, warning that the conflicts appear to be driven by a struggle for global power consolidation.

The monarch made the remark when the newly deployed Commander of the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Benin, Major General Ahmed Balogun, paid him a courtesy visit at the Benin Royal Palace in Benin City, Edo State.

Reflecting on the presence of United States security forces in Nigeria, the first-class traditional ruler prayed to God and his ancestors to protect both Nigerian and U.S. security personnel from harm.

Oba Ewuare II, who served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Scandinavian countries and Italy before ascending the throne of his forebears, also offered prayers for peace and stability in Nigeria and across the world.

Earlier, Major General Balogun explained that his visit was to formally notify the monarch of his deployment as the new Commander of the 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Benin, and to seek royal blessings and prayers to enable him succeed in his assignment.

He also commended Oba Ewuare II for his continuous support and encouragement to security agencies operating in the state, particularly since he assumed duty in Benin about three months ago.

On the same day, the Oba also received the Assistant Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Zone G, Josephine Ogbefun, who led members of her management team on a courtesy visit to the palace to seek prayers and support.

Prayers were later offered on behalf of the palace by Chief George Igiemwin Ekhator, the Obasogie of Benin.
