Oba of Benin asks Obi, “Can you handle the temptations of being president?”

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party Presidential Candidate for 2023, Mr. Peter Obi, was recently received by His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II, Oba of Benin, CFR.

If given the mandate, he was questioned on whether or not he would be able to successfully combat corruption and fulfill the other duties placed on his shoulders.

After Obi paid a courtesy visit to Oba Ewuare II in Benin City, Edo State, the monarch offered some words of wisdom, saying that he had heard a lot about the Labour Party Candidate and that his reputation preceded him.

While the monarch questioned Obi and his running mate Yusuf Datti Ahmed, he maintained that Benin would keep its neutrality posture and remain a father to all the aspirants, regardless of who they supported.

“I prefer to keep my comments brief. Your fame precedes you in every way. What I have heard about you is astounding…

“There are many opportunities for abuse of power and many temptations in the position of President of any country, Your Excellency. Do you want to reassure everyone here that you will make every effort to avoid giving in to temptation? “Oba Ewuare II enquired.

Oba Ewuare assured Obi and members of his team, however, that the Benin throne would remain neutral as he follows Obi’s campaign closely.

The LP presidential candidate, Mr. Peter, recently addressed the throne of Benin, where he made the following pledge: “I will fight corruption, which he claims kills a Country and entrepreneurship in a Country.”

He deplored the state of the country’s economy and promised long-term solutions should he be elected president in 2023.

If elected to lead Nigeria, Obi said he would hold regular meetings with traditional rulers to discuss governance issues and give them the respect they deserve.

He also warned the traditional leader that maverick politicians shouldn’t use race or religion as wedge issues in the upcoming election.

“It is not my time to reclaim Nigeria; it is the time of Nigerians. In my ideal world, every candidate who intends to challenge the results of the election would come out and tell us so.

“Political activity does not constitute gainful employment. Working in this field is a serious career choice. Actually, that’s what I’ve been up to lately.

“Respected traditional leaders like yourself will be included and given the appropriate roles in what we’re doing.
