Oba of Benin performs ‘Ewere’ rite to seek breakthroughs for natives, Nigerians at large

Benin City — On Wednesday, the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, presided over the ancient Ewere rite, offering prayers for breakthroughs for Edo natives and Nigerians generally. Chief Press Secretary Mr Osaigbovo Iguobaro explained that the traditional ceremony was a thanksgiving to Almighty God for achievements recorded in the outgoing year and a plea for divine guidance in the year ahead.

During the event, spiritual banners were kindled amid chants, prayers and eulogies, delighting spectators — including dignitaries, groups and individuals — who came to pay homage and receive the sacred Ewere leaves from the monarch. In turn, the Oba extended similar gestures to the dignitaries attending the annual celebration.Oba of Benin performs ‘Ewere’ rite to seek breakthroughs for natives, Nigerians at large
