Oba of Benin tasks Surgeons on improve medical procedures

The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare, the second has charged Surgeons to reduce incidents of distorted medical procedures and improve healthcare system in Nigeria.

The monarch gave the advice when members of Nigerian Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (NAPRAS) and Surgeons Burns Injuries society (NBIS) paid him a visit in his palace in Benin City, Edo State Capital.

Oba Ewuare called on the leadership of the global Organizations to initiate and implement reforms that will advance Science and improve on their medical practice.

The traditional ruler, however commended the Organizations for living up to its billings over the years and pledged his support in carrying out its duties.

“We advice and plead with you to do your best. Grow these Organizations. I am still curious about your practice in hospitals and what your challenges have been.

“So, we must do our best in prayers to support your Organizations. But I also heard that in some cases, there are failures. This failure is not peculiar to Nigeria, but all over the world”, Oba Ewuare said.

Earlier, the National President of NAPRAS and NBIS, Dr. Folake Abikoye who highlighted the roles of Surgeons, said the bodies have trained almost 200 medical personnel in enhancing manpower development.

Abikoye who presented a souvenir to the monarch, said the rich Cultural heritage of Benin Kingdom, accounts for the reason behind the choice of Edo State to host its Conference and requested for Royal blessings of the Oba.

Plastic surgery entails addressing defects including abnormalities such as Cleft lips, Cleft palate defects that are either caused by accidents or occurs during child birth: grafting of tissues, and other human parts that requires reconstruction through surgery.
